Moving Landline phones to Digital Technology

The Digital Switchover - why?

For many years, the open eir copper network has been the backbone for landline calls and the introduction to internet connectivity. However, with the advent of our new fibre full broadband network, our reliance on copper for communication has significantly decreased.

We are upgrading our copper network to full fibre because our copper network is not sustainable or suitable for our growing technology needs.

If you currently have a copper line then your voice calls are presently analogue, when you upgrade to a fibre line your voice calls become Digital.  Switching to a digital phone line means all devices and services connected to your existing phone line will need to work digitally, connected via the router provided by your service provider when moving to full fibre. Your service provider will offer more information on what you need during the transition.

If you have other devices or services connected to your existing phone line, such as security, care or medical alarms, please ensure they are compatible with your digital line by checking with the company who supplies the service.  Most service providers have upgraded their systems already to support this digital upgrade.

Additionally and an important thing to note, if you want to keep your existing phone line, well, that’s ok, but you must inform your provider when you make the decision to switch, to avoid losing your landline number.
